So we are staying inside here in New York City. Actually, I have already been out two times—both times to grocery stores. There are scones to bake and soup to make.
The weather in New York is very easy to deal with—even in the worst situation you know that there are millions of others stuck in the same place. When it snows, even in big snow storms, everything is plowed quickly and the subways usually always run so people can generally get to work on time. No “I was snowed in” excuses here.
I finally got around to making Split Pea soup with the leftover ham from Thanksgiving. Yes, the ham was in the freezer. Some things are so easy to cook…and this is one of them. Dried peas, celery, carrots, onions/shallots, garlic, herbs, bouillon, thyme, basil, salt, pepper, dry mustard, a ham bone, boil away for and hour or sl and add some red wine vinegar when it’s all over and done with. Easy peasy. Hee hee.
I have promised my co-worker that I would bring in scones to work tomorrow. We all have to be at Cheese World on Sunday so it will be a nice treat. Scones and cappuccinos. The first batch is in the oven—I’ve never made them before—gingerbread scones. The smell is delicious. The next batch will be regular buttermilk scones with dried cranberries.
There are a million silly cartoon/animation shows from the 60’s are on right now: Frosty, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, A Year Without a Santa Claus, etc. We now have a little tiny tree on the coffee table. I got it at Whole Foods and hopefully I can go plant it in the park after Christmas time. It’s waaaay too small to put lights on, but I am happy to finally have a tree this year.
