Mussels and the New Year

Added photos finally (2/2/05)

With sticking to my “I hate New Year’s Parties” doctrine I actually had another decent New Year’s Eve at my humble New York studio with good food (mussels with feta and basil, warm arugula salad with baby brussel sprouts), good alcohol (champagne, champagne, red wine, red wine) and not least of all good friends (David, Michelle, Andreas).

The day started a day and a half earlier with an early release from my workplace.  As there was nothing AT ALL going on, I felt no remorse in leaving exactly at 1pm.  But once I arrived home I realized that there was a lot of surface cleaning to do before anyone came over. The only reason that either David or I felt any need to clean was because friend Michelle was bring along her longtime friend Andreas. Andreas of course (in the realms of good housekeeping) needed to see a clean studio.

Over the course of a day and a half I washed the bathmats and the cats’ UFO cushions, did the dishes and generally pushed a lot of dust around. David was much more successful in that he cleaned the bathroom. I don’t think that our bathroom has been this clean (read - it’s been cleaned at least three times in as many months) since it was occupied by someone else.

The rest of the evening does not need to be explained much as many millions of people out there had similar ones. Friends, TV, food, alcohol – that pretty much sums it up.  We talked about resolutions very briefly as I don’t much subscribe to the need to make all decisions and changes for the year on one potentially drunken evening. The only New Year’s Resolution type things that Michelle and I talked about were that we were going to invite more people to our dinners and go on more picnics. And I threw in go on weekend bike trips.

It was a great year 2004 and I’m sure I’ll find something to like about 2005.
